Bin Laden's demise: US rejoices after a decade
WASHINGTON — After nearly a decade of anger and fear, America rejoiced Monday at the demise of Osama bin Laden, the terror mastermind behind the horrific 9/11 attacks. Navy SEALs who killed the world's most-wanted terrorist seized a trove of al-Qaida documents to pore over, and President Barack Obama laid plans to visit New York's ground zero.
Bin Laden, killed in an intense firefight in a daring raid at his fortified hideout in Pakistan, was hunted down based on information first gleaned years ago from detainees at secret CIA prison sites in Eastern Europe, officials disclosed.
His body was quickly taken away for burial at sea, but not before a DNA match was done to prove his identity. A U.S. official said there also were photos showing bin Laden with the fatal wound above his left eye, a gunshot that tore away part of his skull. The photos were not immediately released.
Once again, US Navy SEALs have proven that they are THE elite spec ops force in the world, as they took out the most wanted "person" in the world - with a head shot, no less - in a raid that lasted approximately 40 minutes.
Next up on the hit list - Ayman al-Zawahri.
Kudos to all involved! Hopefully, at least one of the SEALs will be awarded the CMoH, which would be well deserved, imho.

Never Forget
This is the ninth anniversary of the worst attack on American soil in history. It is a day of tragedy and heroism. It is a day of sorrow and determination.It is a day of coming together to honor the fallen, and resolve to never forget. It is a day to recommit to continuing the fight for our freedom and values.
On September 11, 2001 four airliners were hijacked by Islamist extremists. Three were deliberately flown into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. One, Flight 93, crashed southeast of Pittsburgh, after passengers on board attempted to retake the flight from the terrorists.
Below is the timeline of events on that day, courtesy of September 11 News.
7:58 AM - United Airlines Flight 175 departs Boston on it's way to Los Angeles. Shortly after take off, it is hijacked and diverted to New York City.
7:59 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 11 also departs Boston for Los Angeles. Shortly after take off, it also is hijacked and diverted to New York City.
8:01 a.m. - United Airlines Flight 93 departs Newark for San Francisco. Shortly after take off, it also is hijacked and diverted from it's original destination, likely to Washington, DC.
8:10 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 77 departs Washington's Dulles International Airport for Los Angeles. Shortly after take off, it also is hijacked and diverted from it's original destination, heading to the Pentagon.
8:46 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston crashes into the North Tower at the World Trade Center.
9:03 a.m. - United Flight 175 from Boston crashes into the South Tower at the World Trade Center.
- U.S. Federal Aviation Administration shuts down all New York area airports.
9:21 a.m. - Bridges and tunnels leading into New York City are closed.
9:25 a.m. - All domestic flights are grounded by U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
9:45 a.m. - American Flight 77 crashes into The Pentagon.
10:05 a.m. - The South Tower at the World Trade Center collapses.
10:05 a.m. - The White House is evacuated.
10:10 a.m. - A large section of one side of The Pentagon collapses.
10:10 a.m. - United Flight 93 crashes in a wooded area in Pennsylvania, after passengers confront hijackers.
10:28 a.m. - The North Tower at the World Trade Center collapses.

Almost 3,000 people perished that day, among them the passengers and aircrew of the four flights, employees of the many businesses in the World Trade Center buildings, military and civilian personnel at the Pentagon, and First Responders in New York City from the NYPD and FDNY, as well as others from outlying cities who also responded. The only satisfactory thing about this horrible day is that the 19 terrorist hijackers also died.
Before I conclude this, there is one thing I want to acknowledge, and that is the hospitality an, yes, love shown to thousands of passengers of other airliners that were diverted when the FAA ordered all flights grounded. That hospitality and love that was shown was from ordinary Canadian citizens, who went "above and beyond" in welcoming strangers to their cities, towns, and homes. Thank you all so much for that. It is a debt that may not, in truth, be repayable, but must be acknowledged and remembered.
As you go about your normal routine today, please take a moment to contemplate the events of this day, and remember.

I was just informed of something I was totally unaware of that also happened that day by my friend polaris93, who told me that many, many people from the Jersey Shore area of New Jersey went over to New York City in their boats to pick up folks, and took them back to their homes to give them a place of refuge and to let them call loved ones to say they were alright. By not knowing this, I was not able to acknowledge their actions. To those of you who did this, thank you so much for what you did to give aid and comfort to strangers, and I hope you will forgive me for my ignorance, and omission.

Never forget!
On this date eight years ago, this nation was shocked to it's core by a suicide attack perpetrated by members of the Islamic terrorist group Al-Qaida. Since then, largely due to the efforts of thousands of men and women in various branches of the government, we have thankfully not suffered a repeat attack, even though Al-Qaida has tried to do so over and over and over again.
We have one man that we can thank for exhibiting true leadership in keeping our nation safe, and that is former President George W. Bush. Without his decisiveness in the fight against radical Islamic terrorism, I do not know if we would have avoided another attack, or even multiple attacks. To President Bush I say a heartfelt thank you for doing what you knew had to be done, regardless of the personal cost you knew you were going to pay.
To those thousands of men and women in the various branches of government, both civilian and military, who have fought the good fight to keep America safe, I also say thank you. You will never know how much what you have done, and are still doing, means to me and countless others who are able to continue living their daily lives in our great nation.
To those families who lost loved ones on that fateful day in 2001, my heart goes out to you yet again, as we observe - both publicly and privately - a national day of mourning. I also want to say thank you for fighting to ensure that proper memorials to the events of that day, and the lives lost, are erected in New York City, Washington DC, and that lonely field in Pennsylvania.
To the first responders who put their lives on the line that day - with many also losing their lives in the line of duty that day - to the cops, firefighters, EMT's and other medical personnel, and ordinary citizens who felt compelled to do something to help, I also want to say thank you for your selflessness and your bravery. There aren't many who would have done what you did, and that makes you a special breed, and we are all truly blessed that such folks as you step up and move forward when others fall back.
To continue to honor those directly involved in this tragedy, and as a reminder of what could happen again, I call on all Americans to never forget!

Never Forget
Today marks the seventh anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. I am reposting what I wrote one year ago today - updated to reflect the current year, as I still feel the same way as I did then.
Today, September 11, 2008 marks the seventh anniversary of the attack, not only on our nation, but on our very way of life by “people” bound and determined to enslave not only us, but the entire world.
These “people” want to return us to the time where they controlled vast swaths of the world, imposing their will, and their so-called “Religion of Peace”, through the sword. This is something that we cannot, must not, allow to happen. If a modern, free society, is to survive, we must fight these “people” at every turn, and never surrender. For if we surrender, we shall die.
Yet, there are those in our society who think that these “people” can be appeased, and that, if appeased, they will stop the violence that they inflict upon the world. This is a fallacy, born of a “head in the sand” wishful thinking.
Neville Chamberlain found that out in 1939, when he attempted to appease one of the vilest monsters that has ever walked this earth, Adolph Hitler, when he proclaimed upon his return to London, “Peace in our time!”. Because of Chamberlain’s ill-fated attempt at appeasing Hitler, countless millions were soon subjugated under the jack boots of the Nazi regime, resulting in the deaths of countless millions more, as the world convulsed in total war.
Just as Adolph Hitler wanted the power to dominate the world, imposing his will, so these “people” want to dominate the world, so they may impose their will upon everyone. Whether you realize it or not, the truth of the matter is that we are once again embroiled in a world war, one that we must win, whatever the cost, if our society, our very way of life is to survive.
On this seventh anniversary, take a moment to reflect on what is at stake, for much is at stake. Do not take the freedoms that we enjoy for granted, for if we lose this war, we will lose those freedoms, which is the ultimate goal of those “people”.
I would rather stand and fight as a free man, and risk the possibility of death, rather than surrender and guarantee my death as a slave.
